Day-by-day Itinerary

Day 1
On arrival at Lencois airport you will be met by a private guide and taken to Hotel Canto das Aguas in the town center. After checking in you may want to relax in the hotel or maybe take a wander into the village before dinner. Please note that flights from Salvador to Lencois occur only on Saturdays. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Day 2
Today your full -day tour is to Torrinha Cave, Mucugezinho River, Poço do Diabo (Devil's Hole) and Pai Inácio Mountain. Your first stop will be to see Torrinha Cave, an impressive 70km (44 miles) long cave containing recently discovered rooms and galleries with rare geological formations, such as the famous Aragonite Flower. After the 3-hour cave tour you will move on to Pai Ignacio, a mountain overlooking the Chapada Diamantina, which has panoramic views of the valleys. The ascent is 20 minutes on foot and there will be a 20-minute rest at the top to admire the spectacular views. During the second part of your tour there will be an opportunity to swim in the Mucugezinho River and also the Devil's hole, an enormous natural pool with a beautiful waterfall. A pack lunch is provided. At the end of the day you will be driven back to the Hotel Canto das Aguas.

Day 3
On your third day in Lencois you will get to see the Capão Valley and the famous Smoke Waterfall. Cachoeira da Fumaça is reputed to be the highest waterfall in Brazil, at 350 meters (1,148 feet). You will travel by vehicle to Capao (75 km) (47 miles) until the foot of the trail to Fumaça, from where a trek of approximately 2 hours is required, which takes you across a lovely plateau covered in indigenous mountain vegetation. On reaching the top of the waterfall there are superb views of Capão Valley and if you are brave enough, you can lean over the cliff to see the waterfall below. It is called Smoke Waterfall because the water transforms into mist before reaching the ground, due to its incredible height. Lunch is provided during your rest to admire the views and the waterfall. Make sure you walk back up the Fumaca river bed and swim in the beautifully red colored water (the water is a transparent red due to the iron oxide content). On the way back from Capao to Lencois, you will have the opportunity to stop for a refreshing swim in Riachinho Waterfall.

Day 4
After breakfast today you will set off early on a canoe and walking tour to see the Marimbus (wetland area) and the Roncador River. Your first stop will be at the tiny community of Remanso, which was the first village in the region to be set up by liberated slaves after Slavery was abolished in Bahia. The villagers still live like they did years ago. Here is where you will start your canoe trip down the Marimbus River (approximately 2 hours). You can sit back and relax while your guide paddles through beautiful wetland scenery full of impressive flora and fauna or help paddle yourself. After the canoe trip there will be a stop for lunch and a chance to swim in the river, followed by a 50 minute walk to the Roncador River where you can swim in beautiful natural pools of the Sonrisal waterfall. You will then lunch at a local farm house near the waterfall and relax in the various hammocks strung out under the mango trees. After that you will be driven to the city of Mucuge, where you will stay for the next 3 days. In Mucuge, you will check-in at the Pousada Mucuge.
