In the heart of Brazil, surrounded by the gigantic Serra Geral Mountains, with pure and crystalline rivers, paradise beaches, very primitive natural environment, there exists one of the last regions where nature is practically intact - the Jalapao. Located in the west of the recently formed state of Tocantins, with an area of 34.113 km, it is a transition region between the stunted spare vegetation and waste land composed of stunted twisted trees called “Jalapão desert” - it is really a large oasis, since, in spite of the sandy soil, this region pertaining to the mountain has springs and brooks which in their descent to the Tocantins river valley, besides forming beautiful waterfalls and rapids, allows the survival of a diversified fauna and flora.

Day-by-day Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival to Palmas and transfer to hotel.

Day 2
Breakfast and right after, start the trip to Jalapão. Stop for lunch in Ponte Alta, a small city in the route to the Safari Camp. Arrival to the Safari Camp, meeting to review the program and preventive measures for a wild area environment.
Dinner.


Day 3
"Mirante da Serra" with a spectacular view of Jalapão is your first trip of the day. After lunch you will visit the Sand Dunes, with a different golden color and surrounded by big "chapada" mountains, this is one of the most beautiful sights of the region. Sandboard and trekking are a good way to end the day.

Day 4
Canoeing. Rio Novo is one of the last drinkable water river in the Brazilian savanna and you will be there and enjoy it. You will ride and play 12 Km down the river surrounded by wild life and beautiful scenery.

Day 5
Straight to the Cachoeira da Formiga, a river fall that produces a swimming pool like area, with a marvelous blue color. Then, Poço do Fervedouro, where a river borns and is located in an area surrounded by banana trees. For very special natural conditions, the water area is under a so strong pressure, that is impossible to sink. So you can almost dream you are walking over the water.

Day 6
Cachoeira da Velha and Cachoeira da Suçuapara, a small canyon with an unforgettable water fall. Trip back to Palmas.

Day 7
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.

During the program, you will be provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Old tennis shoes for aquaraid
Sun protector, hat and mosquito repelent
Sport long -sleeve shirt( white preferable) for aquaraid
Swimming clothes
Light sweater
Sunglasses
Small flashlight with extra batteries
Towel
Medicines that you take under physician control
Maximum you can take with you as your carry on luggage, is 20 Kgs

Basic information:Palmas is the capital of the state of Tocantins with full infra-structure. Electricity is 220 volts
Jalapão is a remote region and has no infra-structure. The closest physician attention is at 280 Km distance.
We carry a satellite phone with us, but in the route there is no sign of cell phone infra-structure. There are normal phones in the cities visited.
