Rio is called the  'Marvellous City' by the the inhabitants of the city and it is indeed one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. Uniquely situated on a narrow strip of land between green mountains and the deep blue sea it is surrounded by coves, white sand beaches and granite based mountains, the most famous of which is the Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf).
