* Consular Travel Visas - It is not necessary to have a visa for trips that are not longer than 90 days. Passports are required to be to be up-to-date. Upon entry, visitors are given a tourist card T-3. Keep this card during the period that you stay in the country; it will be necessary for document inspections during your stay as well as upon leaving the country.
* The official currency of Ecuador is the Sucre (ECS). It is recommended that you consult the exchange rate before your trip. The dollar is easily exchanged in this country. The majority of credit cards are accepted especially in large cities.
* Water: In general, the water is safe, however it would be wise to drink only bottled mineral water. When you leave the large cities and go to smaller towns, be careful; for your own safety, we recommend that you only drink bottled water. As in all countries, the hygiene and cleaning of food depends on the establishment you are in. In general, serious problems do not exist.
* There are no required vaccinations to enter the country. However, it is recommended that you take vaccinations against Yellow Fever, Typhoid Fever and Malaria.
* In hotels and restaurants it is customary to give a 10% tip.
* On international flights, there is a tax you are required to pay.
* The official language is Spanish, but the majority of the population also speak Quechua.
* The official religion is Catholicism. Approximately 94% of the population claim to be Catholic.
* The electric current is 110/220 volts at 60 Hz; the plug is typical of an American plug.

* It is recommended to take light clothing and comfortable shoes as well as sunscreen and insect spray.
* Be on alert against thieves who are looking for innocent, unprepared tourists. Avoid walking alone especially at night. Do not take unnecessary risks.
