Ecuador Weather

The climactic variations in Ecuador are perceptively different from one region to the next, due to a diversity in their geographic formations.  Despite being situated in a small territory, Ecuador shelters forests, mountains, and coasts that vary greatly in their climates.

On the coast, the normal, average temperature is 22ºC.  Their winter begins in the month of December and continues until May; summer begins in June and goes to December.  In the years in which the phenomenon El Nino occurs, there is an increase in rainfall during the months from January until May.

In the mountains, the annual, average temperature varies from 12º to 18ºC. The winter begins in the month of October and continues into the month of May.  For the local inhabitants, the mountain climate is pleasant all year round despite the brusque daily variations with very hot days and very cold nights.

In the Amazon, the annual, average temperature varies between 24º and 25ºC.  The months from December to February are the driest months of the year when the rains uniformly distribute between 300 and 400 cm.
